ALS, 1756 August 14 : Paxton, [PA], to Hunter Morris.

Indian trader and founder of Harrisburg, Pa., John Harris built a stockade in 1756, determined to hold his post from Indian attack. In this letter he says: "I have here at presesnt but eleven soldiers three of wch. is verry sick and the whole of them ordinary men (or rather boys) ..." He requests reinforcement troops and says: "I rely on yr. goodness to grant me some more assistance as soon as may be wch. may perhaps be a means of preventing this place from falling a sacrifice & perhaps my little babeys & others here captivated by cruel savages." Hunter Morris was the Governor of Pennsylvania, then positioned in Philadelphia.
